Tom Huang Chaboo

June 19th, 2009 by admin

Weve had an addition to the Project Chaboo lineup all the way from Kansas.  Tom Huang unfortunately did not complete his chaboo in time for the show in March but as they say, better late than never!  His chaboo is pretty amazing.  I met Tom through master bamboo weaver Jiro Yonezawa.  He used some of the techniques he learned from Jiro.  Have a look at his chaboo page!

Chaboo is back!

Countdown for Project Chaboo part 2 has begun.  I started planning it two weeks ago and we are a few weeks away from an official launch.

Here is a logo set that I am developing for Project Chaboo 2.  The skinny one could be a business card.  The bottom right I see as a sticker that we print 10,000 of and pepper the city with.

Ive shed the “project” from the original logo and changed the slogan from “collaboration and community” to “community design”.  You will see why…. stay tuned…

let the hype begin…..

Check out this veneer coffee table by chaboo artist Jason Hernandez.  When I visited him in his shop a few months ago he was just starting to lay out the veneers he had cut and told me about his idea.  Now its done and he had the piece photographed by Project Chaboo photographer Anna Campbell.  Im glad people have been connecting through the project.

MMMmmm.  Pretty SICK if you ask me!  The design of the pattern is just killer and add to that the figure in the veneers- makes my spine tingle.  You can see Jason’s work on his website here.  Hes teaching a class at OCAC this summer called Elements of Furniture Making for beginning through intermediate woodworkers.  Learn from the master!

Interview with Ryah Radomski

Ryah Radomski is a cool cat doing lots of interesting stuff.  Hes been invited to the prestigious IDSA conference in the great NYC this year to present this bracelet he makes.  Congrats!

Ryah also wins the award for most individual parts in his chaboo. These bent aluminum forms are made by laminating approximately 150 aluminum blinds into a form, gluing each one individually. Yes- he is insane.

I originally saw this piece in ShowPDX and invited him to take part in Project Chaboo.  What a badass.
