My New Slab

I bought two big slabs of Swiss Pearwood today at a garage sale…. even though I have no use for it!!!!  Im such an idiot.  I saw these beautiful pieces of wood and I just couldnt let it go…

At least I got a screaming deal at $250 for both.  2″ thick, 8ft long. The look nice bookmatched.  Maybe someday itll be two nice benches or a huge dining table with a glass top or some kind of filler material for the inside.  Or better yet- a conference table for MY office.  Make something nice for myself for once!

Pear trees just dont grow that big.  These slabs are rare beauties.  They have a warm orangish tone with some pink in there.  Whew.. my heart is pounding.

When I was in Baja this last time around my dad and I worked with Eucalyptus which is this surprisingly pink color inside. It’s extremely soft though, so it’s hard to use on anything structural or large, but if you want to highlight something with a rare color it’s a good way to go.

The wood went into some little drawers in the bottom of a chisel cabinet, the deep door variety, like so.
